Are you voting in Phase-1 of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 today? Here are some important things you should know.
Time: Voting for Phase-1 of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 will begin at 7 am and continue until 6 pm (Closure of Poll timings may differ PC wise).
Eligibility: Hope you have checked your name in the Election Commission Website and got in touch with the electoral registration officer in your locality if your name is missing.
Keep your ID proof handy: The ID proof you should carry are your Voter ID card, PAN card, Aadhaar card, driving license, passport, bank/post office passbook with a photo, pension document with photograph, MNREGA job card, Smart card issued by RGI under NPR, Service identity cards with photographs issued to employees by Central/state govt./PSU/public limited company, Health insurance smart cards issued under the scheme of the Ministry of Labour, and official identity cards issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs, etc.
Where’s your polling booth? The Election Commission website will have a section where you have to enter the EPIC number on your voter’s card to find out where your polling booth is.
What happens at the polling booth? Once you reach the polling booth, an official will verify your name on the voter list and check your ID proof.
Inking and documentation: Your index finger will be marked with ink. You will receive an acknowledgement slip. Then you will sign on a register.
Where do you go next? Hand over the slip to the polling officer in the office were the booth is, show your inked finger, and enter the polling booth.
You can vote now: You will see the Electronic Voting Machine. Press the button next to the symbol of your preferred candidate. A beep will confirm your selection. Not impressed with any candidate? Press the ‘none of the above’ or NOTA option.
VVPAT slip: Collect your slip from the VVPAT machine displaying the serial number, name, and election symbol of the candidate you've chosen.
Voila! You have voted and done your bit for democracy.
