The BJP seems to be going all out in an effort to make a dent in JMM’s bastion, while the JMM continues to grapple with its force being weekend after former CM Hemant Soren was arrested by the ED.
With campaigning for the final phase of Lok Sabha elections concluding on Thursday, the BJP and JMM are readying for the final fight in the Santhal region of Jharkhand, where the prestige of both parties is at stake.
On June 1, voting will take place in 57 parliamentary constituencies across seven states and Chandigarh. Among these, the spotlight shifts to the Santhal region in Jharkhand, where three parliamentary seats—Dumka, Rajmahal, and Godda have become a big battleground.
The BJP aims to maintain its hold on two seats, Godda and Dumka, which it secured in the 2019 general elections. However, the loss of the Rajmahal seat to the JMM has put pressure on the BJP to reclaim its position.
The entry of Sita Soren, who switched allegiance from JMM to BJP, as the candidate for Dumka has added intensity to the race.
In Godda, BJP's incumbent MP Nishikant Dubey faces a challenge from Congress candidate Pradeep Yadav. The Rajmahal seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribes, sees a triangular contest between JMM's Vijay Hansda, BJP's Tala Marandi, and independent candidate Lobin Hembrom.
The stakes are high for both BJP and JMM, with prestige and political dominance hanging in the balance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in Dumka further underscores the significance of these elections.
As the JMM grapples with challenges following the arrest of former CM Hemant Soren, the party's campaign is led by Hemant’s wife Kalpana Soren Murmu, his family members and senior leaders.
Notably, Kalpana Soren has emerged as a big leader for JMM in just two months as she is getting huge support from people in the JMM heartland.
It is being said that Kalpana will be crowned as Chief Minister of the State after she wins the Gandey bye-election, the results of which will be declared on June 4.
