Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu rebutted the charge of BJP about former Union Minister, Anand Sharma being an ‘outsider’ in the Kangra Parliamentary constituency and asked if Prime Minister, Narendra Modi can leave Gujarat and contest from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, why can’t the senior Congress leader contest from Kangra in his home state.
“Anand Sharma is from Himachal Pradesh and the entire state is his home,” Sukhu told reporters.
He said it was good that senior Congress leader Anand Sharma has got a Lok Sabha ticket from Kangra.
“He has a good understanding of national and international issues and is a face recognised at the national level. He can raise issues in the Parliament effectively, and this will benefit Kangra and the entire Himachal,” he said.
Sukhu said when Anand Sharma was Commerce and Industry minister in the UPA government in the past, he had brought big projects in Kangra, which included the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Kangra, an industrial park worth Rs 1.5 Crore at Indora and a regional Tea Centre of National Tea Board in Palampur.
The Chief Minister said the three BJP MPs from Himachal Pradesh had failed to get any support for the state in the worst natural disaster last year. He said Anand Sharma will play a significant role in the Congress government in the state bringing a special package for the state.
Sukhu said the Congress was fighting against the saleable leaders and those who were killing democracy. He said the six Congress leaders, who were disqualified from the Assembly, were bought by the BJP.
“Leader of Opposition and former BJP CM, Jai Ram Thakur is beating about the bush now as BJP is exposed in public. his mathematics is very weak as the Congress government has got peoples' mandate for five years and it will go to the people’s court after completing full term” he said. He said the people would choose anyone based on the service.
"People of Himachal know that Jai Ram Thakur never wanted the employees to get the Old Pension Scheme, women to get Rs 1500 per month, higher wages to MNREGA workers and Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk. That is why he has tried to destabilise the Congress government with money power," said Sukhu.
He said the BJP will get a befitting reply from the people on June 4, when the poll results will come.
