The Delhi Police has taken action following an alleged assault on Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar, registering a complaint filed by AAP councillor Chhaya Sharma.
The incident occurred during a meeting at the AAP office in New Usmanpur, where Kumar was interacting with attendees after the gathering. A video of the incident, which has since gone viral, captured individuals garlanding Kumar before throwing ink at him and attempting to assault him.
Sharma, who intervened, was also subjected to misbehaviour and threats. Legal measures are being pursued based on Sharma's complaint, with ongoing investigations into the matter.
Kanhaiya Kumar, the Congress candidate for the North-East Delhi constituency in the Lok Sabha elections, finds himself in a contentious electoral battle against two-time BJP MP Manoj Tiwari.
With Delhi's voting scheduled for May 25 across 7 Lok Sabha seats, the outcome holds significance for both parties. The incident has already sparked reactions, with Congress leader Abhishek Dutta condemning the attack and suggesting potential political repercussions for the BJP in the elections.
He emphasised Kumar's candidacy, asserting confidence in his electoral prospects despite the assault. As the election fervour intensifies, incidents like these underscore the charged atmosphere surrounding political campaigns.
The upcoming polls in Delhi are poised to be closely watched, with every development potentially influencing electoral outcomes.
