Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody until April 15 has not deterred his resolve to govern, as affirmed by AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, who declared that Kejriwal would continue to run the government from jail, supported by the party's MLAs.
The assertion was made following a meeting between AAP MLAs and Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal's wife, in the national capital on Tuesday. Despite facing incarceration in connection with a money-laundering case linked to a liquor excise policy scam, Kejriwal's leadership remains steadfast, buoyed by the unwavering support of his party members.
Saurabh Bharadwaj emphasised the unity of the AAP MLAs in urging Kejriwal not to resign, citing the backing of two crore Delhiites who stand behind the chief minister.
Amidst the BJP-led central government's perceived pressure, Bharadwaj affirmed the party's resilience, rejecting any notions of yielding to external demands for Kejriwal's resignation.
The arrest of Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 has sparked political turmoil, prompting Sunita Kejriwal to step into a more prominent role, delivering messages on behalf of her husband.
Despite facing legal challenges, AAP leaders assert that Kejriwal's position remains secure, emphasising that he has not been convicted in the case and continues to enjoy the overwhelming support of the Delhi Assembly.
Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi reiterated the legal stance, highlighting the absence of any conviction against Kejriwal and emphasising the constitutional provisions governing public representatives.
Atishi emphasised that Kejriwal's resignation would only serve the interests of the BJP, signalling the AAP's resolve to uphold democratic principles amidst mounting pressure.
The ongoing case, stemming from procedural lapses in the formulation of the liquor excise policy, has drawn significant attention. Allegations of financial irregularities and kickbacks have further intensified the scrutiny surrounding the matter, with the ED alleging that AAP leaders received kickbacks amounting to Rs 100 crore.
The intricate legal proceedings underscore the complexities of governance and the political landscape, with the AAP steadfastly defending its leader amid legal challenges and political adversaries.
