Ladwa’s showdown between CM Saini and Cong’s Mewa Singh

Ladwa constituency comes under the GT road belt, which itself makes it a crucial seat for the upcoming Haryana assembly election. CM Nayab Singh Saini will compete with Cong’s Mewa Singh, who had won previously in 2019.

In the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, all eyes are on the Ladwa constituency, where key candidates from major parties are competing for victory. 

 

This time, the leading contenders are Nayab Singh Saini from the BJP, Mewa Singh representing the Indian National Congress (INC), and Sapna Barshami of the INLD, who have been fielded to contest the elections. 

 

Notably, Singh won 2019’s assembly elections with an increase in vote per cent of 17.81 from 2014’s assembly election, when BJP’s Dr Pawan Saini grabbed the seat. 

 

Ladwa comes under the GT road Belt which makes it important in itself as the belt has always played a crucial role in elections.

 

This election is set against the backdrop of a competitive political history in Ladwa. In the 2019 election, Mewa Singh emerged victorious, securing 57,665 votes, which accounted for 41.86 per cent of the total votes cast. 

 

Singh’s victory marked a significant increase of 17.81 per cent compared to the previous election. 


The BJP's Dr Pawan Saini followed with 45,028 votes, standing for 32.69 per cent and a modest gain of 1.80 per cent. 

 

Meanwhile, INLD's Sapna Barshami faced a decline, receiving 15,513 votes, or 11.26 per cent, a drop of 17.45 per cent from her earlier performance.

 

Reflecting on the 2014 elections, Dr Pawan Saini had won with 42,445 votes (30.89 per cent), with INLD's Bachan Kaur Barshami close behind at 39,453 votes (28.71 per cent).

 

The margin of victory for Mewa Singh in 2019 was notable, at 12,637 votes, with a voter turnout of 75.09 per cent from a pool of 183,470 registered electors.

 

Demographically, the town presents a population of 28,887, with current estimates suggesting that it has risen to approximately 40,000.

 

The gender ratio in Ladwa shows a disparity, with 15,345 males and 13,542 females, resulting in a sex ratio of 883 females for every 1,000 males. 

 

Despite this imbalance, the literacy rate in Ladwa stands at an impressive 82.67 per cent, surpassing the state average of 75.55 per cent.

 

 Male literacy is notably higher at 87.66 per cent, while female literacy is at 77.07 per cent.

 

Scheduled Castes account for 16.92 per cent of the population, and there is no Scheduled Tribe presence in the area.

 

Religiously, Ladwa is predominantly Hindu, with 87.16per per cent of the population adhering to this faith. Sikhs make up 7.95 per cent, followed by Muslims at 4.80 per cent.
