A total of 10.39% voter turn was recorded on Jammu Lok Sabha Constituency till 9 am.
Polling began at 7 a.m. at all 2,416 polling locations in the constituency, and it is going smoothly, said the officials.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, sitting MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is seeking a third term in the Parliament after winning the seat in the 2014 and 2019 elections.
This is the first significant election contest in Jammu and Kashmir after the repeal of Article 370 and the division of the former state into Union territories on August 5, 2019.
More than 15,000 polling personnel, including reserves, have been deployed, and security measures are failsafe to ensure free and fair elections.
"There are security and other procedures in place to guarantee that voting is free, fair, and peaceful,” said Pandurang K Pole, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu has 50 key booths, whereas Samba has around 12 border polling stations, according to an official.
The Jammu Lok Sabha seat has 17,80,835 registered voters, comprising 9,21,095 males, 8,59,712 women, and 28 third-gender voters.
Officials said there are 10,498 differently-abled voters and 666 voters over the age of 100.
They said that 2,416 polling stations have been put up in the four districts of Jammu, Samba, Reasi, and Rajouri (the Kalakote-Sunderbani Assembly sector), with 158 near the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC).
