Election authorities in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district embarked on a challenging journey spanning 107 kilometres through winding tracks and dense forests to facilitate voting for two elderly gentlemen in the Lok Sabha polls, officials confirmed today.
The voters, aged 100 and 86, reside in the Gadchiroli-Chimur constituency, scheduled for polling in the initial phase on April 19.
According to the District Information Office in Gadchiroli, the Election Commission has extended the option of home voting to individuals above 85 years of age and those with over 40 per cent disability for the upcoming general elections.

As part of this initiative, election officials undertook the arduous journey from Aheri to Sironcha, reaching the homes of 100-year-old Kishtayya Madarboina and 86-year-old Kishtayya Komera. Despite facing mobility challenges, both were eager to exercise their democratic rights.
The official further stated that the applications of 1,037 voters aged above 85 and 338 individuals with disabilities had been approved for home voting in the Gadchiroli-Chimur constituency.
To date, 1,205 home voters have successfully cast their ballots, ensuring their participation in the electoral process.
