West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of perpetuating falsehoods regarding the Sandeshkhali incident and maintaining a troubling silence over allegations of molestation against Governor CV Ananda Bose.
Speaking at an election rally in North 24 Parganas' Amdanga, Banerjee questioned why PM Modi had not demanded the resignation of the governor amidst the serious accusations.
Banerjee's criticism stemmed from recent developments surrounding the Sandeshkhali controversy, where a purported video surfaced implicating a local BJP leader in orchestrating staged protests against TMC figure Shahjahan Sheikh.
In the video, the BJP leader allegedly admitted to distributing money to women participants in the protests. Banerjee condemned the PM's stance, asserting that the BJP's schemes had been exposed for public scrutiny.
"The PM is still peddling lies about Sandeshkhali. He should be ashamed as the BJP's conspiracy has now become public," Banerjee asserted, referring to the scandalous revelations.
In an earlier clip, a figure resembling BJP's Sandeshkhali mandal president implicated Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari in the alleged conspiracy behind the staged protests.
In counter, PM Modi, amidst his campaign in West Bengal, accused TMC of intimidating the women affected by the Sandeshkhali incident, alleging that the ruling party was shielding the perpetrators.
Modi's claims were met with swift rebuke from Banerjee, who pointedly criticized the PM for failing to address the allegations against Governor Ananda Bose.
Banerjee further spotlighted the silence of the central government regarding the allegations of molestation against Governor Bose, emphasizing the BJP's purported disregard for women's issues. She questioned why PM Modi refrained from demanding the governor's resignation, particularly during his recent stay at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata.
"Why did the PM not ask the governor to resign during his overnight stay at Raj Bhavan?" Banerjee questioned, highlighting what she perceived as the BJP's true anti-woman stance.
