Modi's praise boosts morale of BJP debutante

Modi's praise boosts morale of BJP debutante

The debutante BJP candidate for the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, Madhavi Latha, is on cloud nine following lavish praise from none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.

Impressed by Madhavi Latha’s performance in an interview on a popular television show, Modi heaped praises on her for “making solid points with logic and passion”.

“Madhavi Latha Ji, your ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ episode is exceptional. You’ve made very solid points and also done so with logic and passion. My best wishes to you," Modi posted on X.

A cultural activist, Bharat Natyam dancer and an entrepreneur, Madhavi Latha is a political novice taking on Asaduddin Owaisi, a four-time MP from Hyderabad and president of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen AIMIM. He has been winning the seat since 2004.

In fact, Hyderabad has been a bastion of the Owaisi family for the last four decades. His father Salahuddin Owaisi represented the seat from 1984 to 2004. Apart from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, all assembly seats of Hyderabad, except Goshamahal, are held by the AIMIM.

Madhavi Latha holds a Master's degree in Political Science from Osmania University. She was at the forefront of the campaign against the practice of instant “triple talaq” that was criminalised by the Parliament in 2019.

Her candidature assumes significance since Owaisi has been one of the critical voices against the law that criminalised the practice.

Apart from her activism, Latha is an entrepreneur, an NCC cadet, and a professional Bharatanatyam dancer. She is the chairperson of the Hyderabad-based Virinchi Hospitals.

The compliment from the Prime Minister comes as a boost to her campaign and a fillip to her profile ahead of Lok Sabha polls 2024.

Modi’s compliment was on Madhavi Latha’s recent episode on Aap Ki Adalat, which was telecast on India TV on Sunday. In fact, Modi urged the people to watch the repeat telecast of this programme (on Monday). “You all will find it very informative,” he tweeted.

“Modi ji I got the courage to speak the truth fearlessly from you only and our party motto #SabkaSaathSabkaVikas is my inspiration. We will follow the path you showed until the last breath and will progress only if the nation moves forward unitedly,” Madhavi Latha responded on X.

During the interview on the TV show, Madhavi Latha trained her guns on Asaduddin Owaisi, alleging that he has been winning the elections through fraudulent means.

“The presence of alleged fraudulent votes (Bogus votes) makes elections a farce, and anyone, regardless of merit, can emerge victorious,” she said.

With a staggering 6.2 lakh registered votes at stake, Madhavi Latha alleged that 1.6 lakh individuals appear on the electoral rolls of multiple constituencies.

A quick visit to the Election Commission’s website reveals discrepancies in voting patterns across areas like Chandrayangutta, Yakatpura, and Charminar, raising serious questions about the integrity of the electoral process, she alleged.
