Legendary India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday was seen at a polling station in Ranchi (Jharkhand) where he was present to cast his vote during the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha Election 2024.
The voting for 58 constituencies in Delhi, Bihar, UP, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand began on Saturday morning.
Dhoni was recently involved in Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2024 campaign where the franchise exited in group stage after failing to qualify for the playoffs.
Dhoni battled through a leg injury to turn out in all 14 matches for CSK who failed to defend their title after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a do-or-die contest.
Dhoni stepped away from CSK captaincy ahead of IPL 2024 and batted low down the order. He though looked in good touch throughout as he smashed 161 runs at an average of 53.66 and an excellent strike-rate of 220.54. He struck 14 fours and 13 sixes.
There were speculations around Dhoni’s playing future but CSK have rejected the rumours saying their former captain will inform them of his decision in due course and that they won’t interfere with his call.
“It is a question only MS can answer,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said in a video shared by the franchise when asked about Dhoni’s retirement.
“We have always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him and as all of you know he has always taken his decisions and announced them at the appropriate time,” he added.
Kasi himself though is hopeful Dhoni will return to play for CSK in IPL 2025 as well.
“We do expect that we will get a decision as and when he decides. But we are very hopeful he’ll be available for CSK next year,” he said.
