The nomination process for the third phase of Lok Sabha polls commenced on Friday, covering 94 constituencies across 12 states set for polling on May 7.
Initiated following a notification issued by the Election Commission on behalf of the President, April 19 marks the deadline for filing nominations.
In a separate announcement, the EC notified the "adjourned" poll in Madhya Pradesh's Betul constituency, triggered by the unfortunate demise of the BSP's candidate.
Per protocol, in the event of a recognised party candidate's demise before polls, elections are postponed to allow for the identification and nomination of a replacement candidate.
Originally scheduled for the second phase on April 26, voting in the Betul constituency now awaits the selection of a new candidate by the BSP.
The states and union territories included in the third phase encompass Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.
Marking the commencement of the seven-phase electoral process to elect the 18th Lok Sabha, voting begins on April 19 and concludes on June 1. Vote counting is slated for June 4.
