Notification issued for second phase of LS polls in Uttar Pradesh, no nominations filed on Day 1

The nomination filing process commenced with the notification, and candidates have until April 4 to file their papers.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) released a notification on Thursday for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in eight constituencies of Uttar Pradesh, including Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr (SC), Aligarh, and Mathura.

 

The nomination filing process commenced with the notification, and candidates have until April 4 to file their papers.

 

According to Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, no nominations were filed on the first day of the nomination process. Candidates can file their nominations between 11 am and 3 pm until April 4. 

 

The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on April 5, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is April 8. Polling for the second phase is scheduled for April 26, with vote counting set for June 4.

 

Among the eight Lok Sabha seats in the second phase, seven are of the general category, while one is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.

 

These constituencies span across nine districts, namely Amroha, Hapur, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Bulandshahr, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Aligarh, and Mathura.

 

A total of 1.67 crore voters are registered in these eight Lok Sabha constituencies, comprising 90.11 lakh male voters, 77.38 lakh female voters, and 787 third gender electorate. The constituencies are equipped with 7,797 polling stations and 17,677 polling booths.

 

Meanwhile, in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, returning officers rejected 71 out of 155 nominations filed across eight constituencies.

 

CEO Navdeep Rinwa stated that 84 nomination papers were found valid, with Saharanpur having 12 valid nominations, Kairana 15, Muzaffarnagar 11, Bijnor 11, Nagina (SC) 6, Moradabad 13, Rampur 6, and Pilibhit 10. The deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers is March 30.
