Punjab is going to vote for Lok Sabha elections on June 1 with only 6 women of the Top 5 parties in the political fray. Meanwhile, of all the 328 candidates, only 26 women are contesting Lok Sabha elections on 13 seats in the state, accounting for a meager 7.9%.
The ruling government - Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have not fielded any women candidates in the political battlefield.
Of the total, the highest number of women candidates a party placed is 3 - by the BJP, followed by Congress, who fielded 2 women candidates, and then 1 by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
In Punjab's Vidhan Sabha, the number stands low with only 13 women MLAs. Of this, 11 MLAs are of the ruling state administration AAP. The remaining two include Aruna Chaudhary of the Congress and Ganieve Kaur Majithia of the Akali Dal.
