A voter turnout of 32.70% was recorded by 11 am across seven constituencies in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal.
Arambag (SC) witnessed the highest polling at 36.21%, followed by Uluberia at 33.98%, and Hooghly at 33.78%.
Bangaon (SC) recorded 31.81%, while Sreerampur and Howrah registered 31.74% and 30.89% respectively. Barrackpore trailed at 29.99%.
Polling commenced at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm. The Chief Electoral Office (CEO) of West Bengal received 1,053 poll-related complaints by 11 am.
With 1,25,23,702 eligible voters across 13,481 polling stations, including 63,51,320 men, 61,72,034 women, and 348 individuals from the third gender, the election witnessed significant participation.
Security measures were robust, with over 57% of polling stations identified as sensitive and a deployment of more than 60,000 central force personnel, in addition to around 30,000 policemen.
This phase saw 88 candidates vying for victory, with Bongaon having the highest number of 15 nominees. Notably, Union Minister Shantanu Thakur contested against TMC's Biswajit Das in Bongaon.
