Padma awardees, including Grammy winner Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Kalbeliya dancer Gulabo Sapera, along with several other notable figures, officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday.
Among the dignitaries making the switch were Dungarpur Cricket Association Secretary Sushil Jain, former state Congress Secretary Rupesh Kant Vyas, and retired IPS Roop Singh Meena.
In a statement, Gulabo Sapera expressed her decision, citing the empowerment of women under the BJP's leadership as a motivating factor. "I want more people to join BJP to ensure the country gets developed," she remarked.
Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt highlighted the BJP's ideology of nationalism and cultural promotion as reasons for their joining. "We have not come to contest elections here but we all want India to become a developed nation by 2047," he stated, pledging support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Similarly, Padma Shri awardee Ram Kishore Derewala, a Bagru artist, praised the Modi government for elevating India's global reputation. "India’s fame has risen under the Modi government, and we are being accorded warm welcome in foreign countries too," he noted.
Other prominent personalities who joined the BJP included Padma Shri awardees Tilak Gitai, Shakir Ali, Ustad Ahmad, and Munnashastri, Retired IPS Roop Singh Meena among others.
