Sam Pitroda, the Chairman of Indian Overseas Congress, has taken a firm stance against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent comments on the Congress manifesto.

Pitroda responded to Modi's attack by stating that the Prime Minister's remarks demonstrate a lack of respect for the Indian public and have elicited anger across the nation.

In an online conversation, Pitroda expressed disbelief at Modi's statements, suggesting that they were reminiscent of tactics used to manipulate public opinion.

He criticised Modi's insinuations about the Congress's intentions regarding gold and property distribution, labelling them as baseless fear-mongering. Pitroda emphasised that the Congress manifesto is well-crafted and focuses on uplifting the marginalised sections of society.

The Congress leader defended the party's commitment to assisting the economically disadvantaged, asserting that addressing inequality and poverty has always been a core principle of the Congress agenda. He criticised Modi's approach, accusing him of favouring policies that benefit the wealthy at the expense of the poor.

Pitroda advocated for the implementation of an inheritance tax law in India, citing the example of the United States where such a tax exists. He explained that inheritance tax ensures a fair redistribution of wealth by requiring a portion of an individual's estate to be allocated to the public good upon their passing.

Pitroda highlighted the absence of similar provisions in India, where wealth is often passed down without contributing to societal welfare. Regarding Modi's criticism of the Congress manifesto, Pitroda reiterated that wealth distribution is a policy issue aimed at benefiting the populace, not just the affluent.

He expressed concern over Modi's dismissal of such policies, emphasising the need for comprehensive measures to address economic disparities.

Pitroda's remarks underscore the broader debate surrounding wealth redistribution and economic policies in India. While the concept of inheritance tax remains absent from Indian taxation laws, Pitroda's advocacy reflects a growing discourse on equitable wealth distribution and social justice.

Pitroda's remarks show how the Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have different policy philosophies, highlighting the significance of educated public conversation in determining India's socio economic future.
