Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to intensify his campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with a series of events in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Following his recent campaign launch in Meerut, PM Modi is scheduled to address an election meeting in Saharanpur on Saturday, followed by a grand roadshow in Ghaziabad, as per party sources.
PM Modi is expected to arrive in Saharanpur at 11:30 am, where he will headline the election meeting before proceeding to Ajmer in Rajasthan to address another public gathering. Later in the day, he will return to Uttar Pradesh for a roadshow in Ghaziabad scheduled to commence at 5:15 pm.
The polling for Saharanpur is slated for the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 19, while Ghaziabad will go to polls in the second phase on April 26.
During a massive rally in Rajasthan’s Churu on Friday, PM Modi highlighted the achievements of the Centre over the past decade, likening them to appetizers before the main course. He emphasized the transformative changes witnessed under his leadership, stating that the country has made significant progress in the last 10 years compared to previous regimes.
Uttar Pradesh, being the most populous state with 80 Lok Sabha seats, holds significant importance in the upcoming elections. The state will witness polling across seven phases starting April 19. In contrast, Rajasthan will vote in two phases – on April 19 and April 26, with 12 Lok Sabha seats going to polls in the first phase and the remaining 13 in the second phase.
In the 2014 elections, the BJP secured a near-sweep in UP, winning 71 seats. However, its tally dropped to 62 in 2019 amid tough competition from the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Samajwadi Party. Nevertheless, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) clinched a decisive victory in 2019, securing 303 seats, while the Congress managed only 52 seats.
The Lok Sabha elections, covering 543 seats, will be conducted in seven phases, with nearly 97 crore voters eligible to cast their votes. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.
