The Congress Party, in a strong rebuttal against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks, has moved swiftly to lodge a complaint with the Election Commission.

The complaint centres on PM Modi's comparison of the Congress manifesto to that of the Muslim League, a historical political entity in India. Congress leaders, including Jairam Ramesh, Salman Khurshid, Mukul Wasnik, Pawan Khera, and Gurdeep Sappal, presented and argued six complaints, two of which were directed at the Prime Minister himself.

During an election rally in Ajmer, PM Modi had disparaged the Congress manifesto, labelling it as "a bundle of lies" and accusing it of attempting to fragment India. He specifically likened elements of the manifesto to those of the Muslim League, a move vehemently opposed by the Congress.

The party contends that such comparisons are baseless and inflammatory, aiming to tarnish the Congress's image and sway public opinion against it.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge fired back at the BJP, alleging that the party's "ideological ancestors" had historically aligned with the British and the Muslim League during the struggle for Indian independence.

This rebuttal underscores the deep-seated ideological differences between the two parties and reflects the charged political atmosphere prevailing in the run-up to the elections.

The Election Commission's response to the Congress's complaint will be closely watched, with the party urging the Commission to uphold its constitutional mandate and ensure a level playing field for all parties.

Congress leaders have vowed to pursue all available avenues, both political and legal, to address what they perceive as attempts to malign their party's reputation and distort the electoral discourse.

The swift and assertive response from the Congress highlights the intensity of the ongoing political contest and underscores the significance of each party's narrative in shaping public opinion.

As the election campaign progresses, the exchange of allegations and counter-allegations is likely to escalate, underscoring the high stakes involved for all stakeholders.
