West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's immediate resignation, citing a "moral defeat" after the BJP failed to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha elections, despite Modi's claims of winning over 400 seats.
In a heated press conference, Banerjee vowed to oust Modi from power and promote the INDIA bloc's ascendancy.
"PM Modi has lost all credibility and must resign at once. India has triumphed, and Modi has been defeated. The Prime Minister, who fragmented multiple parties, now sees his own morale shattered. He's now groveling before the TDP and Nitish Kumar to form a government," she asserted.
Banerjee lambasted Modi for his administration's alleged misdeeds, highlighting the misuse of central agencies and the BJP's previously commanding parliamentary majority.
"Today marks the defeat of atrocities and the misuse of central agencies. The BJP, which once threatened us with these agencies and their parliamentary strength, will find no mercy. Neither from us nor from the other parties in the INDIA bloc," she declared.
She also addressed the participation of her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, the TMC's national general secretary, in the INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi.
Banerjee expressed disappointment over the lack of communication from her allies but maintained a conciliatory tone.
"I have texted Rahul Gandhi to congratulate him. Perhaps they were busy, as they haven't reached out yet. It matters little whether they do or not," she remarked.
