In a fiery speech delivered in Vellore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, accusing the party of perpetuating an outdated mindset and obstructing the progress of the state's youth. Modi, addressing a public rally as part of the BJP's election campaign, criticised the DMK for its alleged corruption and anti-Tamil stance.
"The DMK has the first copyright on corruption. DMK wants to keep TamilNadu trapped in old thinking, old politics, the whole DMK has become the company of a family. Due to DMK’s family politics, the youth of Tamil Nadu are not getting a chance to move ahead," asserted Prime Minister Modi.
Highlighting what he perceives as the DMK's criteria for political candidacy, Modi quipped, "There are three main criteria to contest elections from DMK and move ahead in the party. Three main criteria are family politics, corruption, and anti-Tamil culture." He further accused the DMK of inciting divisions based on region, religion, and caste to secure votes.
Modi took the opportunity to endorse two NDA candidates – Soumya Anbumani of Pattali Makkal Kachi and AC Shanmugam of the New Justice Party – during his campaign ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He also lambasted the opposition INDIA bloc, particularly targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's past remarks on "Shakti," asserting that the alliance insults and mistreats women.
With the Navratri festival commencing, Modi urged the nation to remember how the INDIA bloc 'has taken a vow to destroy Shakti' and asserted that those who worship the Goddess will not forgive the Congress and its allies.
The prime minister's aggressive campaigning in Tamil Nadu, including a massive roadshow in Chennai, underscores the significance of the state in the upcoming elections. All 39 seats in Tamil Nadu are set to vote in a single phase on April 19, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.
In his concluding remarks, PM Modi expressed gratitude to the people of Chennai, stating, "Chennai has won me over! Today’s roadshow in this dynamic city will remain a part of my memory forever. The blessings of the people give me strength to keep working hard in your service and to make our nation even more developed. The enthusiasm in Chennai also shows that Tamil Nadu is all set to support the NDA in a big way."
