Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to kickstart the Bharatiya Janata Party's campaign for the Lok Sabha polls in Uttarakhand with a rally in Rudrapur on Tuesday, targeting the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar constituency. State BJP president Mahendra Bhatt anticipates a turnout of over one lakh people for the rally.

"Uttarakhand lives in the heart of the prime minister. The people of Uttarakhand also look forward to his visits eagerly," said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Highlighting the developmental initiatives, Dhami mentioned that over the past decade, the Centre has sanctioned numerous significant projects for Uttarakhand, with projects worth more than Rs 1.5 lakh crore already underway in the state.

"We are fortunate that he has selected Rudrapur, a primarily agricultural and industrial town, to commence his campaign from. We aspire for the BJP to secure all five seats in Uttarakhand with an even greater margin than in 2019," added Dhami.

Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bahuguna and Pradesh BJP general secretary Khilendra Chaudhry are appointed as the conveners for the PM's poll rally, as informed by state BJP media in-charge Manveer Chauhan.

Dhami, listed among the party's 40 star campaigners for the Lok Sabha polls, has been actively participating in roadshows and public meetings to bolster support for party candidates for over a week. The momentum in campaigning is expected to escalate with the PM's rally in Rudrapur.

Following the PM's rally, BJP president JP Nadda will commence his tour of the state. He is scheduled to address public meetings in Pithoragarh, under the reserved Almora Lok Sabha seat, and Vikasnagar, under the Tehri Garhwal constituency. On April 4, Nadda will conduct a roadshow in Haridwar.

Among the key candidates, Union Minister of State for Defence and Tourism Ajay Bhatt is contesting from the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar seat, which he secured in 2019, defeating former Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

Ajay Tamta will contest from Almora, a seat he has held since 2014, while Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah will contest from Tehri, a seat she has held since the 2012 bypoll. Former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will contest from Haridwar.
