Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trailing in his home turf, Varanasi, by over 6200 votes, according to the Election Commission of India website. Congress’ Ajay Rai is leading at the moment according to early trends.

The votes in the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi ran as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, are currently being counted.

Narendra Modi was the BJP candidate from Varanasi, UP Lok Sabha seat. In the elections, he competed against state Congress chief Ajay Rai. 

PM Narendra Modi won the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi, the spiritual capital of the Hindu faith. 

During the campaigning in Varanasi, Narendra Modi, Ajay Rai, and their supporters rallied through the streets under the scorching sun, with afternoon temperatures rising as high as 45 degrees.
