Former MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, has stirred controversy by insisting on contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the Purnia constituency, a seat designated for the RJD as part of the Bihar alliance. His demand has put pressure on the Grand Alliance in Bihar.
The Mahagathbandhan, comprising the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, recently announced the allocation of 26 out of Bihar's 40 Lok Sabha seats to the RJD, including Purnia. However, Pappu Yadav, who merged his Jan Adhikar Party with the Congress, remains adamant about contesting from Purnia.
Despite the alliance's decision, Pappu Yadav has urged RJD supremo Lalu Yadav to reconsider and allocate the Purnia seat to the Congress. He expressed his plea through various channels, emphasizing the importance of unity within the alliance.
Pappu Yadav's commitment to the Congress party is evident, as he vows to lead the charge for a Congress government in Seemanchal-Kosi. He envisions the Congress flag flying high in Purnia and aims to propel Rahul Gandhi to the position of Prime Minister.
With a political career spanning over three decades, Pappu Yadav has been elected to the Lok Sabha five times in the past. Despite facing expulsion from the RJD in 2015, he remains a prominent figure in Bihar politics, now aligning himself closely with the Congress.
Bihar gears up for polling in seven phases, with the first phase scheduled for April 19 and the last phase on June 1. In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the NDA emerged victorious, securing 39 out of 40 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan managed to secure only one seat.
The upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will be crucial for Bihar's political landscape, with parties vying for dominance in the state. Stay tuned for further updates as the election season unfolds.
