Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to resolve his dilemma on Monday regarding which Lok Sabha seat to retain — Wayanad or Raebareli. Sources within the Congress indicate that Gandhi will announce his decision then.
Rahul Gandhi secured victories in both constituencies with significant margins. He was the incumbent Lok Sabha member for Wayanad, where he contested and won in the recent elections.
He also triumphed in Raebareli, a seat traditionally held by his family. Previously, his mother Sonia Gandhi represented Raebareli before opting for a Rajya Sabha seat instead of contesting in the latest elections.
During a visit to his constituency on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi expressed his gratitude to his voters and acknowledged his difficulty in choosing which seat to retain. He assured that his decision would be satisfactory to all parties involved. This statement has sparked speculation that his sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, might be fielded as a candidate from Raebareli.
At a public meeting in Kalpetta, State Congress president and Kannur Lok Sabha member K. Sudhakaran suggested that Rahul Gandhi would vacate the Wayanad seat for the greater good of the party.
Contrarily, Congress legislator and former State Minister A.P. Anilkumar, who represents the Wandoor Assembly seat within the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, expressed the collective desire of local Congress members for Gandhi to retain the Wayanad seat.
This decision holds significant weight for the Congress party's strategic positioning. Wayanad has seen Rahul Gandhi as a dynamic representative, gaining considerable support from the local population.
