The Congress Party has unveiled its sixth list of candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, focusing on constituencies in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. The latest roster comprises five nominees, with four hailing from Rajasthan and one from Tamil Nadu.
In Rajasthan, the party has strategically selected candidates to contest from various constituencies. Ramchandra Choudhary has been nominated for the Ajmer Lok Sabha seat, while Sudarshan Rawat will represent Rajsamand. Damodar Gurjar is slated to contest from Bhilwara, and Prahlad Gunjal is set to challenge Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the Kota constituency.
With 25 parliamentary constituencies in Rajasthan, the state is gearing up for phased polling, scheduled in two phases on April 19 and April 26.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu will witness elections on all 39 Lok Sabha seats on April 19. The Congress Party has designated Tharahai Cuthbert as its candidate for the bye-election in the Vilavancode constituency.
This announcement follows the Congress Party's fifth list of candidates released on Sunday, which featured Pratap Singh Khachariyawas as the candidate for Jaipur, replacing Sunil Sharma. In contrast, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also unveiled its fifth list of candidates, spanning various states across India.
Notable inclusions in the BJP's candidate list include Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency and veteran actor Arun Govil, renowned for his portrayal of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan,' from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.
As the nation braces for the crucial Lok Sabha elections, scheduled in seven phases from April 19, both major political parties are actively finalizing their candidate lists. With nearly 97 crore eligible voters set to cast their votes, the electoral landscape is charged with anticipation.
The Congress Party has declared candidates for 190 constituencies, while the BJP has announced nominees for 402 Lok Sabha seats thus far. The culmination of this democratic exercise will occur with the counting of votes on June 4.
In the previous Lok Sabha elections, held in 2019, the BJP secured a dominant victory with 303 seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) secured only 52 seats. Similarly, in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP emerged triumphant with 282 seats, while the INC managed to secure only 44 seats.
