At a press conference held at the BJP state media centre in Ahmedabad, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of undermining democracy and indulging in corrupt practices.
Singh highlighted the Congress's historical record of toppling elected state governments, pointing out instances where President's rule was imposed, with the majority occurring under Congress leadership.
He emphasised that during the ten-year tenure of the UPA government, corruption was rampant, dubbing it the "Olympics of corruption" and holding Congress accountable as the organiser.
Singh criticised Rahul Gandhi's recent remarks on historical matters, asserting that the Congress leader lacks understanding and selectively remains silent on certain aspects of history.
He particularly addressed Gandhi's comments regarding princely states' integration into India after independence, attributing the successful mergers to the efforts of leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The Defense Minister also condemned the Congress for its role in imposing the Emergency, describing it as an assault on democracy and the suspension of fundamental rights.
Responding to Congress's criticism of BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal winning from Surat unopposed, Singh pointed out similar instances in the past, highlighting Congress's own involvement in such occurrences.
Singh contrasted the BJP's Sankalp Patra, which promises to build a new, strong, and developed India, with the Congress manifesto, which he characterised as "divisive and inspired by appeasement."
He expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, predicting his third term as Prime Minister as a testament to the strength and credibility of Indian democracy.
In his closing remarks, Singh lauded PM Modi's rise from humble beginnings to the highest office in the country, citing it as evidence of Indian democracy's resilience and inclusivity.
