Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, flanked by the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, led an impressive roadshow on Monday from the BJP state headquarters to the District Collectorate as he filed his nomination for the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami joined Singh on the chariot, along with Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Ministers Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Maurya, state BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary, and Rajya Sabha MPs Dinesh Sharma and Sudhansu Trivedi.
The chariot, part of the 'Lucknow Vikas Yatra,' showcased developmental projects worth Rs 54,000 crore completed by senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh in Lucknow.
Union Minister Kaushal Kishore, contesting the Mohanlalganj seat in Lucknow, also filed his nomination on Monday.
The BJP leaders were greeted by enthusiastic crowds chanting slogans of "Abki baar, 400 paar," "Jai Shri Ram," and "Har, Har Mahadev." Petals were showered on the leaders, with CM Adityanath seen managing traffic through a microphone, ensuring way for an ambulance.
Trader organisations along the route felicitated Union Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking his third consecutive term in Lok Sabha from Lucknow. Lucknow has been a BJP stronghold since 1991, with the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee winning the seat five times before being succeeded by Lalji Tandon in 2009. Rajnath Singh secured victories in 2014 and 2019.
Before filing his nomination, Rajnath Singh visited the Hanuman temple in Lucknow to offer prayers. BJP's Lucknow Metropolitan President Anand Dwivedi highlighted street meetings and the distribution of leaflets, emphasising the development works undertaken by the Lucknow MP.
Lucknow is scheduled to go to the polls on May 20, along with 13 other constituencies, in the fifth phase of the seven-phased 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
