The Cachar district administration in Assam's Barak Valley has imposed Section 144 ahead of the Silchar Lok Sabha seat elections, primarily during the nomination filing phase.
This move aims to prevent potential instances of election-related violence, malpractices, and disruptions to peace and order during the electoral process, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
Scheduled for the second phase on April 26, the Silchar constituency's nomination window opens today.
In anticipation of the upcoming polls, District Magistrate Rohan Kumar Jha issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code.
"In view of the parliamentary election to the Silchar (SC) constituency of Cachar district, the district magistrate has issued a number of prohibitions under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code," the official release said.
The directive strictly prohibits gatherings of more than five individuals within 100 meters of the returning officer's or assistant returning officer's office.
Additionally, the entry of more than two vehicles within the same perimeter is also restricted.
Furthermore, the order prohibits assemblies of more than five people in processions accompanying candidates during the nomination filing process within the specified area.
