Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has filed his nomination from the Vidisha Lok Sabha seat for the upcoming 2024 elections.
The filing of his nomination came hot on the heels of a spirited 'Namankan Sabha' and a grand roadshow in Raisen, setting the stage for a vigorous electoral campaign.
Chouhan, accompanied by his wife Sadhna Singh, commenced the proceedings with a traditional puja at his residence in Bhopal.
Following the auspicious start, Chouhan led a mega roadshow through the streets of Raisen, rallying support from the enthusiastic crowd before formally submitting his nomination papers.
Vidisha, a constituency with historical significance, has been a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since 1989.
Chouhan himself has a long-standing association with Vidisha, having represented the constituency for five consecutive terms in the past. His tenure as Member of Parliament spans from 1991 (bypoll) to 2004, during which he established a strong rapport with the electorate.
Chouhan shared a video message on his official X account, saying "I have served Vidisha for several years as an MP and then as the CM for over 17 years. I am going to file my nomination for the Lok Sabha election once again. Kindly show your support"
The timing of Chouhan's nomination filing coincides with the ongoing Phase-1 elections in Madhya Pradesh, where voting for six Lok Sabha seats, including Sidhi, Shahdol, Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Balaghat, and Mandla, is underway.
The voter turnout, as of 11 AM, stands at 30.46%.
