Indra Hang Subba of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) emerged victorious on Tuesday, securing Sikkim's sole Lok Sabha seat by defeating his closest competitor, Bharat Basnett of the Citizen Action Party (CAP-Sikkim), with a significant margin of 80,830 votes.
The 35-year-old incumbent MP garnered 1,64,396 votes, comfortably outpacing Basnett, who received 83,566 votes.
The Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) candidate, PD Rai, trailed behind in third place with 77,171 votes.
SKM's chief, P S Tamang, extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for their comprehensive victory in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
Tamang expressed SKM's unwavering support for the NDA's agenda of national development and prosperity.
Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, Dinesh Chandra Nepal, finished fifth with 19,035 votes, trailing behind Independent candidate Laten Tshering Sherpa, who secured 21,263 votes.
The parliamentary and assembly elections in Sikkim were conducted on April 19.
The SKM reaffirmed its dominance in state politics by winning 31 of the 32 assembly seats, marking its second consecutive term in power.
