Members of the transgender community from various parts of India will attend Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi's oath ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.
BJP leader Virendra Kumar highlighted this significant moment, noting that it's the first time such an initiative has been taken under Modi's leadership, ensuring representation from all sectors of society.
Members of the Kinnar community expressed their pride and gratitude for being invited to the ceremony. One community member shared their feelings, saying it is a matter of great pride and honour to be included in such an important event. They mentioned that while some members couldn't attend in person, they are watching from home and sending their blessings to Modi.
Another transgender individual echoed these sentiments, expressing their happiness and appreciation for the respect and recognition given to their community during Modi's tenure.
They emphasised that this is the first time their community has been invited to a swearing-in ceremony, and it has filled them with joy and a sense of belonging.
BJP leader Virendra Kumar, who won from the Tikamgarh Lok Sabha seat with a significant margin in the 2024 elections, praised the inclusion of the transgender community. He has a long history of electoral success, having been elected multiple times from Madhya Pradesh's Sagar and Tikamgarh Lok Sabha seats.
Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi interacted with members of Parliament likely to be inducted into his Cabinet and Council of Ministers. He also hosted a customary high tea at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi before the grand event.
The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at 7:15 PM today (June 9) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, with Modi taking the oath of office along with his council of ministers. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had unanimously passed a resolution on June 5 to elect Modi as their leader.
This swearing-in marks a historic moment as Narendra Modi becomes the only leader, after former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, to be elected for a third consecutive term after completing the full tenure of each previous term. To ensure the safety and security of Rashtrapati Bhavan during the event, five companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured 240 seats, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a total of 292 seats out of 543. The Congress, part of the INDIA bloc, fought the election but was unable to prevent the BJP from securing a majority in the Lok Sabha.
