Two electorates died on Friday in the polling booths of Salem and Kallakurichi Lok Sabha constituencies.
One of the deceased has been identified as R Chinnaponnu, 77, of Sentharapatty in Salem district.
She went to cast her ballot in booth number 250 in Sentharapatty which falls under Gangavalli assembly constituency and Kallakurichi Lok Sabha constituency.
Chinnaponnu, who arrived at the booth accompanied by her son, collapsed as she proceeded towards the EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) after getting her finger inked.
Her son along with others took her to a government hospital in Gangavalli. She was declared dead by the doctors. And the cause of her death was cardiac arrest.
Another voter, N Palanisamy, 69, of Suramangalam in Salem LS constituency, too, collapsed inside a polling booth.
He was rushed to the hospital by police officials present at the polling station. In this case, too, doctors confirmed that he passed away after suffering from cardiac arrest.
