The political landscape in Karnataka is heating up as the state gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with Union Minister Prahlad Joshi accusing the Congress party of having an "appeasement policy" after the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) extended its support to them.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi slammed the Congress party, alleging that their policies have always been divisive and have failed to promote unity among communities. He pointed out that major riots in the country have occurred during Congress' tenure and accused them of pursuing appeasement policies, which he claims have led to the support of "anti-national" parties like the SDPI.

The SDPI, considered the political arm of the banned terrorist organization Popular Front of India (PFI), has declared its unconditional support to the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. This declaration has raised concerns among opposition parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), about the implications of such support.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier criticized the Congress for seeking support from the SDPI and questioned the safety of the people of Karnataka under a Congress government. BJP Kerala President K Surendran has also called upon Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to clarify his stance on the SDPI's support to the UDF.

The Union Home Ministry had previously designated the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its affiliates as an 'Unlawful Association', citing their involvement in serious offenses including terrorism, disturbing public order, and disregarding the constitutional set-up of the country. This move underscores the gravity of the situation and the potential risks associated with political alliances with such entities.

Karnataka is set to hold elections in two phases on April 26 and May 7 for its 28 Lok Sabha constituencies. With the BJP and Congress vying for dominance in the state, the issue of alliances and support from controversial parties like the SDPI has become a significant point of contention.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP emerged victorious in Karnataka, winning 25 out of the 28 seats with a significant vote share. However, the Congress managed to secure only one seat, highlighting the challenge they face in the upcoming polls.

As the election season approaches, the political dynamics in Karnataka are witnessing a surge in activity, with parties jockeying for support and making strategic alliances. The BJP's accusations against the Congress regarding their alleged appeasement policies and ties with the SDPI add another layer of complexity to an already intense electoral battle.
