It seems violence does not leave Manipur even on the day of voting. The worn-torn area is in shambles even when the country, let alone the state, gears up for the first phase of election.
Miscreants armed with weapons allegedly infiltrated a polling station in Khongman, Imphal East, and proceeded to cast votes on behalf of multiple voters, despite the presence of police officials and political party agents.
Upon learning of this egregious act, enraged citizens stormed into the premises of National Children’s School in Khongman Zone 4, which houses polling station number 5 by 31, and vandalised the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines. The public condemned the armed miscreants, accusing them of engaging in proxy voting to secure victory for a particular candidate.
A similar incident unfolded at Khongman Zone 5 polling station, situated approximately 200 meters away from polling station 5 by 31.
Manipur is witnessing elections in two seats of Lok Sabha polls.
