Eight Lok Sabha constituencies in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in the second phase of the elections, which will be held on April 26.
These seats are Amroha, Meerut, Mathura, Baghpat, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar and Bulandshahar.
The ruling NDA bloc, the Opposition INDIA, and the Bahujan Samaj Party will contest several constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. These constituencies include Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, and Gautam Buddh Nagar.
In Aligarh and Bulandshahar, the BJP will face the Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav. On the other hand, Mathura and Ghaziabad will witness a direct fight between the BJP and the Congress.
One of the key candidates to watch in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections is Hema Malini, who is eyeing her third win from Mathura. The Bollywood veteran will face off against Congress' Mukesh Dhangar.
Hema Malini is also among the wealthiest candidates in the country, with assets worth over Rs 278 crore. Among the 1192 candidates participating in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, 390, or about 33%, are "crorepatis."
It is not just Mathura; the BJP has also fielded another power from Meerut. The saffron party has nominated Arun Govil, famous for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the 1987 Ramayan serial, for the upcoming elections in Meerut.
To ensure a stellar political debut, Govil has made a number of promises to the voters. He has promised to improve Meerut's infrastructure, including roads, sanitation, and public facilities.
To appeal to the farming community in the constituency, Arun Govil has assured them that they will receive better crop prices and ensure water availability.
He will compete against Sunita Verma of the SP and Devvrat Tyagi of the BSP.
In Amroha, the incumbent MP Kunwar Danish Ali, who is seeking re-election, is fighting for his second victory. This constituency has never been known for any particular political affiliation. Ali, who contested the seat on a BSP ticket in 2019, is now running as a Congress candidate. His opponents in the race are Kanwar Singh Tanwar from the BJP and Mujahid Hussain from the BSP.
