Jharkhand and Odisha are witnessing notable voter engagement as polling began in earnest on Monday, with significant turnout figures reported by 11 am.
In Jharkhand, where polling started at 7 am across Chatra, Hazaribag, and Koderma Lok Sabha seats, a voter turnout of nearly 26.18% was recorded, indicating a robust early participation in the second phase of elections.
Simultaneously, Odisha reported a commendable 21% voter turnout by the same time.
Jharkhand's Chatra constituency registered a turnout of 26.01%, Hazaribag at 25.45%, and Koderma at 26.95%.
This phase of elections in Jharkhand features 22 candidates contesting from Chatra, 15 from Koderma, and 17 from Hazaribag.
Approximately 58.34 lakh voters, including 28.35 lakh women, are eligible to cast their ballots in these constituencies, underscoring the significance of voter participation in shaping electoral outcomes.
Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar highlighted the extensive coverage across seven districts, with 6,705 booths established, including special provisions for women, persons with disabilities, and youths.
Meanwhile, CEO Odisha, N B Dhal, reported peaceful polling with no untoward incidents till 11 am, reinforcing the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
Despite minor technical glitches, as indicated by the replacement of 70 ballot units, 89 control units, and 167 VVPATs, voter turnout remained encouraging.
"Polling is underway for five Lok Sabha constituencies and 35 Assembly segments, approximately 21.07% of the over 79.69 lakh voters have cast their ballots," Dhal said.
