Voting for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha election has begun. This phase will determine the fate of several high-profile candidates, including former Union minister Maneka Gandhi, in 14 seats of Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, the bypoll for the Gainsari assembly seat in Balrampur is also taking place.
Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has reported that there are a total of 162 candidates in the fray from the parliamentary seats, comprising 146 men and 16 women. In addition, seven hopefuls are contesting in Gainsari.
Voting commenced at 7 a.m. and will conclude at 6 p.m. Campaigning for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha election concluded at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
The Lok Sabha seats going to the polls in this phase are Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phulpur, Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Shrawasti, Domariyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalganj, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhlishahr and Bhadohi.
Uttar Pradesh sends the highest number of MPs to the Lok Sabha, 80. In the first five phases, 53 seats have been voted on.
The remaining 13 seats will vote in the seventh phase on June 1, and the votes will be counted on June 4.
