310 nominations filed for Phase-II of J&K Assembly polls

A total of 310 candidates filed their papers for the second phase of the assembly elections in J&K as the last date for filing nominations closed on Thursday.

As per the ECI schedule, elections will be held in 26 constituencies covering six districts on September 25.

 

According to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the final day for filing nominations was Thursday, September 5.

 

In total, around 329 nominations were filed as some candidates filed their papers from two constituencies.

 

Central Kashmir’s Srinagar had the highest number of candidates at 112, followed by Budgam with 68 nomination papers.

 

Additionally, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, and Ganderbal districts also saw a high number of nominations.

 

The notification for phase two was issued on August 29, 2024. The validity of the papers filed will be scrutinised today, September 6, and the date to withdraw nominations is September 9.

 

Voting across these 26 constituencies is scheduled for September 25, 2024, between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, marking a key phase in the electoral process for Jammu and Kashmir.

 

In Srinagar, eight constituencies received a large number of nominations: Hazratbal AC received 18 nominations, Khanyar AC – 10 nominations, Habbakadal AC 20 – nominations, Lal Chowk AC – 12 nominations, Chanapora AC – 9, Zadibal AC – 15, Eidgah AC – 15, and Central Shalteng AC –  13 nominations.

 

In Budgam, five constituencies saw the following number of candidates: Budgam AC with 12 nominations, Beerwah AC with 18, Khansahib AC with 17, Charar-i-Sharief AC with 12, and Chadoora AC with 9 nominations.

 

In Jammu, Rajouri’s five constituencies received a fairly good number of nominations by the candidates, Kalakote-Sunderbani AC received 11 nominations, Nowshera AC – 7, Rajouri (ST) AC – 14, Budhal (ST) AC – 7, and Thannamandi (ST) AC – 8 nominations.

 

Similarly, in Poonch, three constituencies received a relatively smaller number of nominations: Surankote (ST) AC with 11, Poonch Haveli AC with 13, and Mendhar (ST) AC with 11 candidates filing their nomination papers.

 

In Reasi, of the three constituencies, Gulabgarh (ST) AC received 7, Reasi AC – 10, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi AC – 7.

 

Ganderbal’s two constituencies, Kangan (ST) AC received 6 and Ganderbal AC received 18.

 

This is one of the most high-profile segments in the upcoming elections, as Former chief minister Omar Abdullah will also be contesting from this segment.
