Sanjay Singh Counsel Seeks 100 Hours for Document Review in Excise Case.

In the ongoing Delhi Excise policy case, AAP MP Sanjay Singh’s counsel informed the court on Friday that inspecting the documents at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office would take approximately 90 to 100 hours. Other counsels also mentioned the time they would need for inspection.

During the hearing, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and other accused were presented via video conferencing from jail. Special judge Kaveri Baweja granted time for the document inspection and listed the matter for July 3. The court also extended the judicial custody of Manish Sisodia and other accused until July 3.

The judge directed the ED to supply a copy of the charge sheet filed against AAP MP Sanjay Singh to the other accused, ensuring that the names of protected witnesses were redacted. The court also ordered the ED to provide the charge sheet filed against K Kavitha.

The court has given the counsels one month (June) to inspect the documents daily and complete the inspection. To facilitate this, the court asked the counsels for the accused to assign two associates to handle the inspection process. Furthermore, the ED has been instructed to make appropriate arrangements for the inspection.

The case revolves around allegations of corruption and money laundering in the implementation of Delhi's excise policy. The ED and CBI have been investigating these allegations, leading to multiple arrests and charges against various political figures, including Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia.

The investigation has garnered significant public and media attention, with the accused vehemently denying the charges and alleging political vendetta. The AAP has consistently maintained that the accusations are baseless and politically motivated to tarnish the party's image and disrupt its governance in Delhi.

Manish Sisodia, a prominent leader of the AAP and a close aide of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has been a focal point in the case. His arrest and subsequent judicial custody have been major developments, given his critical role in the Delhi government.

The extension of judicial custody and the court’s orders regarding the inspection of documents indicate the complexity and ongoing nature of the case. As the accused prepare their defence, the legal proceedings are expected to continue drawing considerable attention in the coming weeks.

The Delhi Excise policy case remains a significant legal battle with potential implications for the political landscape in Delhi and beyond. With the next court hearing scheduled for July 3, all eyes will be on the developments and how the defence and prosecution present their arguments moving forward.
