Y-Category security given to 4 SPMLAs involved in BJP voting during Rajya Sabha polls

MLAs who got Y-category security are Abhay Singh (Gosaiganj), Manoj Kumar Pandey (Unchahar), Rakesh Pratap Singh (Gauriganj) and Vinod Chaturvedi (Kalpi).

Four Samajwadi Party MLAs who voted for the BJP during the February 27 Rajya Sabha elections have been provided Y-category security, according to a senior government official on Sunday.

The four MLAs granted Y-category security are Abhay Singh from Gosaiganj, Manoj Kumar Pandey from Unchahar, Rakesh Pratap Singh from Gauriganj, and Vinod Chaturvedi from Kalpi, respectively.

These four legislators, along with three others from the party - Pooja Pal, Rakesh Pandey, and Ashutosh Maurya - had cross-voted for the BJP during the Rajya Sabha elections. This voting pattern resulted in the BJP's candidate Sanjay Seth defeating the Samajwadi Party nominee Alok Ranjan.

Additionally, Maharaji Prajapati, another MLA, had chosen to abstain from voting.

It is worth noting that Rakesh Pandey, one of the cross-voting MLAs, is the father of MP Ritesh Pandey, who recently transitioned from the BSP to the BJP.

Under the Y-category security, each MLA will be guarded by eight CRPF personnel. Five personnel will be assigned to protect their residences, while the remaining three will accompany them during travel.

The official mentioned that while Abhay Singh received the security cover on Friday, the three others were provided with it on Saturday.

Following the Rajya Sabha elections, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav commented, suggesting that the MLAs may have switched allegiances to the BJP due to incentives and security assurances.
