'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' begins production

Set a century before Game Of Thrones, the new HBO Original drama series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is now in production.

The fictional universe of "Game of Thrones" is expanding with the commencement of a new spin-off series in production, as announced by American premium cable network HBO.

Filming for the show, named "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms," has started in Belfast, Ireland. HBO stated that the series is based on George RR Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight.”

Five new actors – Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings, and Sam Spruell – have joined the previously confirmed cast members Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell.

This six-episode show is the second spin-off from the acclaimed fantasy series "Game of Thrones," which aired on HBO from 2011 to 2019 for eight seasons.

The first spin-off, "House of the Dragon," recently premiered its second season on HBO.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” will follow the exploits of the knight Ser Duncan the Tall (Claffey) and his young squire, Egg (Ansell), roughly 100 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and 100 years after the events of “House of the Dragon”.

"A century before the events of 'Game of Thrones', two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.

"Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends," the official logline read.

In the series, the two main characters will come across various members of the Targaryen family, such as Prince Aerion Targaryen (Bennett), Prince Baelor Targaryen (Carvel), and Prince Maekar Targaryen (Spruell).

They will also encounter a knight known as the Laughing Storm, Ser Lyonel Baratheon (Ings), and a puppeteer named Tanselle (Crawford). Sarah Adina Smith and Owen Harris are set to direct three episodes each of the series.

"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is written and executive produced by Martin and Ira Parker. Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Harris and Sarah Bradshaw will also serve as executive producers.
