Bollywood actress Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber Police for her alleged involvement in the ongoing investigations into the multi-crore Mahadev online gambling and betting scam, officials stated on Thursday.
Bhatia, known for her roles in 'Baahubali' and other films, purportedly endorsed and promoted the online viewing of IPL matches on the Fairplay app, one of the group apps of Mahadev, according to officials.
The actress has been requested to appear before the Cyber Police on Monday, April 29, to provide her statement as a witness for the investigations into the alleged illegal streaming of the IPL 2023 series on the app.
This development follows other individuals from the entertainment industry, including the business managers of Sanjay Dutt and Jacqueline Fernandes, as well as singer Badshah, being ensnared in the probe.
Over 425 individuals from various fields have been arrested across the country in connection with the case.
The Mahadev app scam, reported to involve an estimated over Rs 6,000 crore, is under scrutiny by multiple interstate and central agencies.
Since the scandal surfaced in 2021, the case has resulted in six dozen more FIRs being lodged across India. As a money-laundering angle emerged, the Enforcement Directorate also joined the multi-dimensional probe.
The involvement of numerous celebrities, entertainment world personalities, business figures, and others, purportedly with political backing, has been exposed as the investigation unfolds.
