Singer Heer has spoken about her gratitude for working with AR Rahman on the song ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’, describing the collaboration as an experience that has influenced her approach to music.
Recalling how the opportunity came about, Heer said she received a call from Rahman after he heard one of her songs on Instagram. She said she was initially unaware that the song he wanted her to sing was ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’.
According to Heer, working with the composer has changed the way she understands vocal performance. She said Rahman has a distinctive ability to read a singer’s voice and draw out emotions that may not have been consciously considered before.
She added that each experience of working with him leaves her with something new to learn.
Heer has explored contemporary, romantic and traditional musical styles in her recent releases. She said receiving songs with contrasting sounds has allowed her to develop as an artist, while also helping her avoid being confined to a single musical identity.
“I have been fortunate to get songs that are very different from each other. I don’t want to restrict myself to one particular sound. For me, the excitement is in discovering what a song needs and then trying to give it my all,” she said.
Alongside her work with AR Rahman, Heer has performed songs including ‘Chhaap Tilak’ and ‘Roop Di Rani’. She said these opportunities have enabled her to explore different aspects of her artistry.
Comparing singing to acting, Heer said every song has its own personality and requires a different response from the singer. She added that she is enjoying this phase of her career.
