Challenging society’s age-old fixation with beauty based on ageism, 62-year-old Hollywood actor Demi Moore has won the title of World’s Most Beautiful person, becoming one of the oldest people to receive this honour. The announcement by People Magazine has won hearts across the world.
The recognition came amid a massively successful year for Moore. Her recent film “The Substance” not only marked her powerful return to the spotlight but also earned her a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination.
Reflecting on her journey in an interview, the “Flawless” actor shared insights into her personal journey with beauty, ageing, and body acceptance.
“It’s been like a full pregnancy - really joyous moments, exhausting moments. But overall, it was an extraordinary time and experience.”
Talking about her relationship with her body, Moore said, “I have a greater appreciation for all that my body has been through that brought me to now.”
She added, “It doesn’t mean that sometimes I look in the mirror and don’t go, ‘Oh God, I look old,’ or ‘Oh, my face is falling’ - I do. But I can accept that that’s where I’m at today, and I know the difference today is that it doesn’t define my value or who I am.”
Recalling the extreme dieting and workout routine from her early years in Hollywood that were dictated by unrealistic beauty standards and expectations, Moore said: “I was really just punishing myself.”
“It's so much more about my overall health and well-being. It's much more about longevity and quality of life. And I think I've evolved into greater gentility towards myself," Moore said in the interview.
