Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has broken his silence on Operation Sindoor, India’s recent precision strikes against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with a powerful post on the social media platform X.
The 82-year-old megastar’s post, written in Hindi, marked his first public statement in nearly 20 days since the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 28 lives, including that of a Nepalese tourist.
Bachchan, known for his reflective and often poignant social media posts, chose to share a deeply emotional note, quoting his father, the late poet and scholar Harivansh Rai Bachchan, to honour the Indian Armed Forces. His post, laden with patriotism and symbolism, also recounted the horror of the Pahalgam incident from the perspective of a widow who witnessed her husband’s brutal killing by terrorists.
"While celebrating the holidays, that demon dragged an innocent husband and wife outside. He stripped the husband naked, and after fulfilling his so-called religious duty, when he started shooting him, the wife, falling to her knees and crying, pleaded again and again, ‘Don’t kill my husband.’ But that cowardly demon, with extreme cruelty, shot her husband – making her a widow. When the wife cried out, ‘Kill me too!’ the demon said, ‘No! Go and tell ‘....’!" Bachchan wrote, adding a poignant line from his father’s poetry, which was also famously used in his film ‘Agneepath’.
The poem, capturing the spirit of resilience and defiance, reads:
"I carry the ashes of the funeral pyre in my hands,
yet the world asks me for sindoor."

Bachchan ended his post with a stirring call to the Indian Army: "Jai Hind, Jai Hind Ki Sena. You shall never stop; you shall never turn back; you shall never bow down. Take the oath, take the oath, take the oath! Path of Fire! Path of Fire! Path of Fire!!!"
This marked Bachchan’s return to X after a prolonged period of silence. His last post was on the day of the Pahalgam attack, following which he had shared a series of blank posts, sparking speculation among his followers. The recent post, however, broke that silence with a powerful tribute to the Indian Armed Forces, reflecting his longstanding support for the country’s military.
Bachchan’s heartfelt message comes at a time when the Indian film industry has rallied behind the government’s response to the 22 April attack. Prominent figures such as Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Ranveer Singh, Sidharth Malhotra, Janhvi Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Rajinikanth, Mammootty, and Emraan Hashmi have also voiced their support, applauding the precision strikes that reportedly neutralised nine terror sites on 7 May.
Meanwhile, diplomatic developments continue, with India and Pakistan agreeing to a ceasefire following talks between their Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) on Saturday.
The ceasefire, effective from 5 pm, covers all land, air, and sea operations, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
