Online ticketing platform BookMyShow has lodged a formal FIR regarding the black marketing of tickets for British rock band Coldplay’s upcoming concerts in Mumbai as part of their "Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025."
In a statement on Thursday, the company revealed that it is considering cancelling tickets that have been resold "unethically."
The FIR, filed on October 2, 2024, follows an initial complaint lodged with Mumbai Police on September 23, 2024. The complaint urges authorities to investigate unauthorised resale by individuals and platforms.
"In its ongoing fight against ticket scalping and black marketing of Coldplay's tour tickets in India, BookMyShow has lodged a formal FIR... urging the authorities to investigate the unauthorised resale," the company said.
The Coldplay concert, scheduled for January 2025 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, has seen an overwhelming demand for tickets. Limited availability led to scalping, with tickets being resold at inflated prices, prompting Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) to launch an inquiry.
Anil Makhija, BookMyShow's chief operating officer, has already given a statement to police earlier this week. Despite these concerns, BookMyShow confirmed the concerts will proceed as scheduled.
"Reports contrary to this are factually incorrect," the company stated.
The company added that it remains vigilant and will continue sharing information with authorities to prevent illegal reselling.
