The Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF), a leading film festival in Northeast India, is gearing up for its ninth edition, inviting entries from across the nation in both competitive and non-competitive categories.

Scheduled to take place in Guwahati, the festival will feature a diverse array of films, celebrating Indian independent cinema while providing a platform for emerging filmmakers.

The deadline for submission of entries is September 30, 2024. Since its inception, BVFF has distinguished itself as a prominent cultural event, known for its ability to blend storytelling with cinematic finesse.

This year’s edition promises to be a grand affair, building on the success of previous editions that have consistently attracted an average of 25,000 visitors.

Organised by Tattva Creations and Brahmaputra Foundation, BVFF has become a crucial venue for showcasing untold stories and fresh talent.

Beyond film screenings, the festival offers a range of activities including workshops, masterclasses, and industry apprenticeships.

These initiatives are designed to equip young filmmakers with essential skills and provide valuable networking opportunities.

The festival's reputation has been bolstered by collaborations with major industry players, such as its partnership with Amazon Prime during the last edition.

This association enabled independent filmmakers to present their work on a broader scale, potentially opening doors to both national and international opportunities.

Tanushree Hazarika, the Festival Director, expressed her excitement about the upcoming event.

“We’re thrilled to return for our ninth edition, and it’s set to be more vibrant and expansive than ever,” Hazarika said.

“The support from the BVFF community during our 8th edition, especially as we emerged from the pandemic, reaffirms our commitment to providing a platform for India's finest storytellers. BVFF is not just a festival; it’s a celebration of the culture, creativity, and talent of the Northeast, offering a space where media and entertainment professionals can share their stories and insights,” Hazarika maintained.

In addition to film screenings, attendees can look forward to engaging workshops, panel discussions, and various mini-events.

These activities are designed to offer a comprehensive experience, enriching participants both professionally and personally.

Veteran actor Boman Irani shared his enthusiasm for the festival, noting its role in highlighting the talent of filmmakers from the Northeast.

“I’m excited to visit the festival again. BVFF is instrumental in recognizing and promoting the most talented filmmakers from the region. It embodies inclusivity and fosters meaningful dialogue,” Irani remarked.

Director and producer Prakash Jha praised the festival for its efforts to elevate regional cinema.

“BVFF does a remarkable job of popularising the best films from the Northeast. It serves as a great ambassador for Indian cinema by integrating creativity with a broad perspective on talent promotion,” Jha said.

Writer-director Krishna DK commended the festival’s meticulous organisation.

“The attention to detail by the BVFF organisers allows filmmakers to showcase their work on a grand scale. The festival’s continued success is a testament to its impact on the perception of regional and emerging filmmakers,” DK added.

The festival has also garnered support from numerous notable figures in the film industry.

Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Rajkumar Hirani, Gauri Shinde, Shakun Batra, Amar Kaushik, Vishal Bharadwaj, Nagesh Kukunoor, Abhishek Chaubey, and Rajkumar Rao, among others, have been involved with BVFF, lending their support and expertise to the festival’s growth.
