Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ was nothing short of a cinematic juggernaut when it landed in December, and if the early numbers for the sequel are anything to go by, we are looking at a repeat performance of even greater proportions. With just over a week to go until ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ hits the big screen, the film is already behaving like an unstoppable force at the box office.
Following the trailer's debut last week, advance bookings for the Wednesday previews on March 18 were quietly opened. The response has been staggering. Since ticket sales went live on Saturday, the film has shifted over 2 lakh tickets across India, with 1.5 lakh of those coming through BookMyShow alone. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the premiere shows have already grossed a massive ₹12.29 crore. To put that in perspective, this "preview" collection has already eclipsed the actual opening-day figures of Shahid Kapoor’s ‘O Romeo’, which struggled to hit ₹9 crore last month, and even Tiger Shroff’s ‘Baaghi 4’ from last year.
Perhaps most impressively, the film has already shattered the record for the highest collections by a Bollywood film from premiere shows, a title previously held by ‘Stree 2’ with its ₹10 crore mark. While the Hindi heartland is driving the bulk of the revenue, the Tamil dub is proving to be a surprise hit, already pulling in nearly ₹10 lakh from the previews— a sign that the film’s ultra-nationalist hook is resonating far beyond its primary market.
The project, which was originally shot as a single epic before being split into two parts just before the first film’s release, sees Ranveer Singh return as the angsty, clean-shaven Jaskirat, better known to his Karachi targets as Hamza. The sequel promises to peel back the layers of his transformation and his single-minded pursuit of vengeance against the Lyari gangs for the 26/11 attacks. With Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal all returning to the fray, the stage is set for a 19 March release that could very well rewrite the record books again.
