'Dhurandhar' set for a re-release in theatres worldwide

Set in Lyari town of Karachi—an area historically associated with gang conflicts and violent territorial battles—the first film followed covert intelligence operations against the backdrop of major geopolitical and terror incidents, such as the Kandahar plane hijack, the 2001 Parliament attack, and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

A week ahead of the release of "Dhurandhar: The Revenge", the makers on Thursday revealed plans to re-release the first instalment of the franchise in theatres worldwide.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, the spy thriller starring Ranveer Singh originally premiered on December 5 and went on to become a massive box-office success. The film collected around Rs 1,300 crore globally, with nearly Rs 1,000 crore coming from the Indian market alone.

Jio Studios and B62 Studios have now decided to bring the blockbuster "Dhurandhar" back to the big screen through a rare global theatrical re-release. The film will return across nearly 500 screens worldwide, including about 250 screens across India starting March 12 and another 250 international screens, beginning March 13.

In North America, the movie will be screened on approximately 185 screens, reflecting the strong anticipation surrounding the upcoming sequel.
The second instalment, titled "Dhurandhar: The Revenge", is scheduled to hit theatres globally on March 19, coinciding with the festivals of Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, and Eid.

While the first film was released only in Hindi, the sequel will have a wider linguistic reach with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
Ahead of the global release, the makers are also planning special premiere screenings in the United States and Canada on March 18—a day before the film officially arrives in theatres worldwide.

These premieres will primarily be held on Premium Large Format (PLF) screens, which feature expansive wall-to-wall displays, immersive audio technologies such as Dolby Atmos, enhanced projection quality and luxury seating. Such formats are typically reserved for major Hollywood spectacle releases.

The sequel will explore the rise of Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza Ali Mazari within Karachi’s underworld, while also tracing his origins as Jaskirat Singh Rangi and the transformation that eventually leads him to become a covert operative.

Actors R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi will reprise their roles in the second instalment. The film has been directed and produced by Aditya Dhar, with Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar also serving as producers.
